Vianey received her PhD in Statistics from Iowa State University in 2019, and was a postdoctoral researcher at NC State University from 2019-2020. Since July 2020, she is an Assistant Professor, cross-appointed between the Department of Statistical Sciences and School of the Environment at the University of Toronto. She is primarily interested in working in the areas of ecological statistics, time series modeling, Bayesian statistics and, more recently, spatial modeling of environmental data. Collaborative projects bring her loads of joy. So, while she is formally trained in mathematics and statistics, she is likely to be working closely with ecologists and marine biologists (esp. those who work with sharks) often and on many projects. |
Marie is a statistical ecologist with a passion for polar and marine ecosystems. She loves to tackle difficult problems and much of her work involves developing statistical tools that help answer challenging ecological questions. While her interests are diverse, she is fascinated by animal behaviour and much of her work has focused on developing statistical tools to understand the movement strategies used by animals to find resources and cope with the dynamics of their habitat. She is currently interested in developing statistical methods to help identify important habitats for marine animals. |

I was born in Mexico. I did a BSc in Actuarial Science at Mexico's Autonomous Institute of Technology (ITAM) and an MSc in Statistics with Data Science at the University of Edinburgh. I am currently a PhD student at the University of Toronto, under the supervision of Dr. Vianey Leos Barajas. My research interests include Bayesian inference, spatio-temporal modeling, statistical computation, machine learning, applications in health, ecology and astronomy. |

I am french and interested in the interface between ecology and statistics. I am currently during a PhD developing statistical methodology to model complex behaviours in Narwhals. More precisely, I am interested in developing hidden Markov models that account for individuality in population inference and include both physiological conditions and feedback mechanisms. I am co-supervised by Dr. Marianne Marcoux (Fisheries & Oceans Canada) and Dr. Marie Auger-Methe . |
Marco Gallegos HerradaMy name's Marco. I'm a first-year PhD student in Statistical Sciences at the University of Toronto. I did a bachelor's in Mathematics at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), and a MSc in Statistics at the University of Toronto. My inclination towards environmental sciences, applied statistics, MCMC algorithms and coding led me to work with my supervisors, Dr. Vianey Leos Barajas and Dr. Jeffrey S. Rosenthal. My research will focus on the development and incorporation of feedback mechanisms in Hidden Markov models for the study of animal movement data, as well as the development and adaptation of MCMC methods for the full exploration of the posterior space of such models.

I am a Masters student in Statistics at the University of British Colombia. I previously did my undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto. I am interested in Bayesian statistics and spatio-temporal modelling of movement data with applications in the environmental/ecological sciences. I am currently working on using Hidden Markov Models to identify changes in heart rate variability and its association with bipolar disorder, supervised by Dr. Nancy Heckman, Dr. Abigail Ortiz and Dr. Vianey Leos Barajas.
